Paramedic Registration
The Paramedic Association of New Brunswick is responsible to ensure the professionalism and competency of Prehospital emergency medical practitioners in the Province of New Brunswick. To ensure practitioners are appropriately and consistently evaluated, the Association requires all registrants to participate in an annual Registration Process.
This process is comprised of a "Registration" component as well as a "Continuing Education" component, consistent with other healthcare professions. Each Paramedic is responsible to meet their obligations within the Registration and Competency Maintenance Processes.
Paramedics are required to participate in Continuing Education each year, however they are only required to report on continuing education activities bi-annually. The Association has evaluated current educational programs available and has allotted a value to each program.
Paramedics affiliated with an ambulance service will be awarded a portion of their continuing education credits automatically, based on the type of service (BLS or ALS) and call volume exposure.
Should a practitioner fail to complete the Registration and Competency Maintenance Processes, the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick will advise the ambulance service operator of any changes in a practitioners status.
The Paramedic Association of New Brunswick assumed responsibility for the affiliation process in 2002. All affiliation and un-affiliation requests, including EMT and Ambulance Attendant (Class 4, CPR) are to be forwarded to the Association for processing.
