PROVINCIAL MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

The Department of Health and Wellness is seeking an individual for the position of Provincial Medical Director for Emergency Medical Services within the Health Emergency Management Services Branch. Reporting to the Director of Health Emergency Management Services, the Provincial Medical Director will be responsible for the development of medical protocols, provision of expert advice on the development of operational guidelines and on clinical aspects of New Brunswick’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system, including design, coordination, facilitation and evaluation. This position will also be responsible to determine the need for, and oversee research projects to improve the delivery of EMS in New Brunswick; oversee the establishment of clinical standards, quality assurance and paramedic training and licensure requirements, including competency maintenance, continuing education and recertification.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will possess a Medical Degree and 5 years experience in the clinical practice of emergency medicine. Applicants must be eligible for full licensure with the New Brunswick College of Physicians and Surgeons, with preference given to those with a certification in Emergency Medicine.
Applicants will have to demonstrate a substantive knowledge of the design and operation of an EMS system, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment. This position will require travel and some flexibility in working hours, as well as excellent leadership, planning, facilitation, administration, organization, presentation, critical thinking/analysis and decision-making skills. Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French are required.
