Presidents Address

August 29, 2005

Dear Membership:

I am pleased to introduce the launch of our new website and I need to thank all the hard work that everyone has put forth in making this happen. I also need to apologize to the membership for the delay in communications from the Board. We have had a very busy summer with the various happenings around the Province. The most notable would be the RFP (Request For Proposal) I’m sure you are all aware of.

We have also been working very hard to receive a letter of approval from Minister Robichaud for the “Paramedic Act”. The Minister’s legal department requested some word smithing changes to the Act, the changes have been made but we are still waiting to see if the changes provided meet with their approval. When we receive that approval these changes can be made public to our membership. The hold-up until now has been vacationing DHW staff. However, we expect an answer very soon.

The Board has just completed a 2-day Strategic Planning Session the first of many we feel will be necessary to keep the Association moving forward, in order to keep up with the coming changes. Some of the topics will be put up on the website over the coming weeks and months to keep you informed. We also hope this will motivate participation at the Chapter levels to lead us in the direction you feel appropriate. This session proved very beneficial in that the Board has identified and discussed; areas we need improvement in, projects that need to be completed/started, goal setting and monitoring, PAC, NOCP, town hall meetings, website development, communications and public relations to name a few.

I hope you find this new website useful and informative. We intend on making regular updates and providing the membership with additional info as it becomes available. We hope with this new format that registration and CMP credits submissions will be easier for the individual member. Although not everything was ready for our launch date, even when we pushed it back a couple of weeks, we felt we couldn’t delay any longer. When the information becomes available it will be posted. Please visit the website often and remember to participate in your chapter meetings on a regular basis to be kept informed and to keep us headed in the right direction.

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and had some down time to enjoy it. I would again like to thank all of you who sacrificed your summer for the benefit of PANB. Your dedication and hard work is definitely paying off and hopefully will be realized by all.

Respectfully,
Jim Brown
President
Paramedic Association of New Brunswick
